Is India better than the United States?

My Indian brothers and sisters!

How are you all? The same old saas-bahu drama on Star Plus or the enthralling matches of IPL? What’s up with you all?

If I ask you, do you prefer the United States more than India, you’ll all be like, “Duh! Anytime”. Is that right? In most cases it is. We all know that the States is the most powerful country in the world and that it is the most preferred destination of Indians apart from Ju K (UK) and Kaneda (Canada).

But is Amrika (America) really worth it? Is it so special that we leave our traditional aloo ke paranthe with makkhan and lassi and gravitate towards pancakes, toasts and bacon?

Well, being an Indian, I love criticizing my country. But, I was so tired of picking up on my country that I decided to detour and praise it, instead! How’s that for a change? Huh?

So, I researched and researched. And finally, here are the top 8 points that prove India to be a better country than Amrika!

How could I’ve not started with this? I’m still befuddled by the fact that the States hasn’t had a female president yet. I mean, how? As for India, after 61 years of Independence, we had our first female president in 2007, Smt. Pratibha Patil. And, interestingly, even after attaining independence in 1776, it has been 239 years and counting for America. No female president! Let’s hope the Clintons change this in 2016. Go, Hillary!!

December 16, 2012. The most unfortunate day for us Indians. We finally woke up to the fact that our sisters aren’t safe in our country. Well, let me point out that India is not the unsafest country for women in the world. Do you know which country is it? Do you? AMRIKA, people!! How can it be second or third? I mean, it’s the world superpower. It has to be number 1. 1 in 6 women in the States are raped in their lifetime. India comes 4th. Still not proud of my country, by the way!

So, the ‘suit-boot ki sarkar’ is going out and about (literally), to achieve a double digit economic growth, which was achieved back in the first quarter of 2010, by my man, Dr. Manmohan Singh. After just 64 years of independence, India achieved 11.40% economic growth. And the mighty States achieved 13.40% economic growth in fourth quarter in 1950, after a mere 174 years of independence (pun intended). Is anybody feeling proud? I know I am!

Now, be it the Spelling Bee contests or the number of Indians making their mark in the Silicon valley, our NRI brothers and sisters are giving a tough competition to the Americans. And we are all the more charitable when we contribute nearly $3.3 billion to the U.S. economy by just getting a degree from their colleges. And you know what! You know WHAT!!! 102,673 students from India are enrolled in the U.S. universities! HUGE!! Coming back to India, 26.5 million students got enrolled in higher education in 2014-15. And the rate of growth of these graduates is a whopping 15%! And, now take a flight straight to the States. 21 million students are enrolled in higher studies , approximately 5.7% of the total population.

Now, I know that our newspapers and magazines along with the televisions are flooded with commercials of universities and colleges. But do you know how many of these are there? Approximately 687 universities; central, state, deemed and private are engaged in providing world-class education. Also, there are an approximate of 33,023 colleges in India. And, I can safely say ‘still counting’. Whereas there are just 2,618 colleges AND universities in the States.

Female foeticide is no doubt a grave problem in our country. But, number of males for each female in India is 1.08 as against a mere 0.97 in the States!

I’m literally tired of all those who make fun of people hailing from Bihar and North East. Also, with a large number of African students studying in India, the problem of racism is increasing tenfold. But, even the world superpower has failed to give a healthy and safe environment to different races. Hate crimes against African-Americans, Hispanics, Jews, Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus and almost anybody who is a non-American and non-white is prevalent in the United States. Ku Klux Klan, which was formed in the 19th century in Southern United States to eliminate black Americans is very much present in the 21st century. Events in Ferguson, Missouri and recently in New York are an indication of the seriousness of the racist problem in the States.

Okay! You might find it a bit funny, but India is the biggest consumer of gold in the world with about 842.7 tonnes of it being consumed in 2014. The States? Just 165 tonnes. I dunno, man! I just had to mention this one!

Our country, with gazillion flaws, is still a better country than most of other nations. We can make it better by keeping a check on ourselves. We can make it better by being responsible citizens. I hope in future when I rewrite this post, I mention at least 800 strong qualities of India.

Criticism is constructive, but do not neglect the achievements of the hardworking Indians who have toiled hard to transform our country from the land of snake-charmers to the land of opportunities.

Much Love,

Spreading love and being grateful for everything God has blessed me with. Trying to persuade people to live a happy life and give more to society.
