The Mediterranean Graveyard

Forced to flee

They plead

Nobody listens

Humanity stiffens

Their homes leveled to ground

Their own people hound

They seek hope in the ocean

But their misfortune has set in motion

Thousands drowned

Not a single person frowned?

Aylan washed ashore

And the world burst in furor!

Where was this anger,

When kids died of hunger?

Right in the middle of the sea

Kids died when they tried to flee

Lampedusa was cramped

When refugees flanked

Setting sail from Libya

Refugees from Syria

Iraqis, Sudanese, Yemenis joined

In their miseries conjoined

War took a toll on some

For some poverty was hard to overcome

Germany seemed like a wonderland

But their entry there was banned!

Robbed off every single penny

The traffickers stuffed don’t know how many

In congested vehicles and boats

Where many died because they choked

The ‘lucky ones’ survived

But only to later die

By drowning in the vast sea

Their souls finally set free

From the shackles of this cruel world

Their spirits unfurled

Traitors of different nations took guard

That is why today we have the Mediterranean graveyard
